The Eventual Fulfillment
of a Photograph's Plan to be Recognized
as a Valid Art Form of its Time
Credit: H.W. Immke and Kristin Anderson
Silver contact print from time-damaged glass plate negative
7 x 5 inches
1911 - 2003
The hand-made emulsion
has cracked, shrunken, peeled and shifted on its glass base from
years of storage in a damp barn. It has taken nearly 100 years
for this image to "grow into" the early cubist aesthetic
that was emerging during the era in which this photograph was
taken. I have not altered the image; I printed the negative in
its current state.
Negative is property
of the Bureau County Historical Society, H.W. Immke Archive.
